Salute to Small Business

LM Communications Named 2014 Small Business of the Year

At the September 26th Commerce Lexington Inc. Salute to Small Business Awards Luncheon at Keeneland presented by Forcht Bank, LM Communications Broadcast Media Group was named the 2014 Small Business of the Year. The recipient of this year’s Business Success Award, LM Communications was chosen among seven different category winners as the Small Business of the Year. The company will now have the opportunity to be submitted by the Bluegrass Small Business Development Center for state and national recognition through the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Founded by President & CEO Lynn Martin, LM Communications is Lexington’s only locally-owned radio group. Martin began his radio career 43 years ago with a part-time sales position in the Toledo, Ohio, area that eventually turned into a sales manager job and later a general manager position for WIOT in Toledo. From there, Martin bought his first radio station with a partner in 1981 in Charleston, West Virginia. Three years later, he went out on his own and purchased his first station in Lexington.

Today, LM Communications is celebrating 30 years in business, with decades of digital programming, technical and creative experience in the industry. It includes five radio stations in Lexington, two in Charleston, South Carolina, five in Charleston, West Virginia, and sales agreements with two other stations.

Commerce Lexington Inc. President and CEO Bob Quick told awards luncheon participants, “Commerce Lexington’s Salute to Small Business Awards program enables us to say thank you and recognize many hardworking businesses, and this year’s group of category winners is exceptional. Altogether, the seven category award winners boast 280 years in business right here in the Bluegrass. That’s amazing and astonishing, especially with the ups and downs of the economy.”
