Personal Services & Care

Over the years, the health care sector has been one of the driving forces of growth in the Lexington economy. The Millennium Edition of Places Rated Almanac ranked Lexington’s health care supply the eighth best in North America, and the industry’s constant expansion is evident in hospital and clinic construction and renovation projects throughout the city.

Because of its central location in the Commonwealth, Lexington has become the hub for health care services in Central and Eastern Kentucky. In fact, 52-percent of patients admitted to hospitals in Fayette County are from outside the six-county metropolitan area. The quality of health care is second to none, and people throughout the state recognize it to be the best.

According to an Economic Impact Study by Commerce Lexington Inc. and Lexington Health United, employment in the health services sector grew more than six times between 1970 and 1999, outpacing the annual growth rate at the national level.

Offering a diverse range of services, including hospitals, clinics, blood banks, and emergency care, the region provides a variety of health care options. Area hospitals are prepared to handle everything from emergency surgery to newborn babies. Lexington is home to many innovative and unprecedented medical efforts in the state, nation and the world.
