To vote, a person must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years of age before the next General Election. In Kentucky, the potential voter must be a resident of the state and precinct for 28 days before the date of the next election. Since January 1995, Kentucky citizens can register to vote at the time of vehicle registration or driver’s license renewal under the “Motor-Voter” Program.
With a proper state registration form, voter registration can be handled by mail or in person at the Voter Registration Office of the County Clerk at 162 East Main Street in Lexington. For voter information and deadlines, call (859) 255-7563. For a mail-in voter registration form, visit www.fayettecountyclerk.com.
Be sure to check with your local voter registration office for closing dates of the registration books. Books are closed 10 days prior to any special election and 28 days prior to any regular election. Absentee ballots are available from the Fayette County Clerk for people who will be absent due to an illness, have a disability, or are unable to go to the polling place.
