
Top Priorities are Public Safety, Jobs & Quality of Life
Last week, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray delivered his 7th budget address to city officials and community leaders. After years of growth, Mayor Gray predicted a stabilizing in revenues for this year and next. The Mayor also outlined his priorities for the city's $358 million General Fund budget placing emphasis on public safety, job creation and quality of life. The highlights included:

Last week, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray delivered his 7th budget address to city officials and community leaders. After years of growth, Mayor Gray predicted a stabilizing in revenues for this year and next. The Mayor also outlined his priorities for the city's $358 million General Fund budget placing emphasis on public safety, job creation and quality of life. The highlights included:
- Adding a 4th sector to the city's Police Department and deploying 30 new police officers and 6 safety officers.
- Creating the One Lexington Initiative to coordinate all public and private sector activities addressing drug abuse and crime.
- $8 million for economic development incentive programs including the Jobs Funds, workforce development training grants and projects like Town Branch Commons and the Lexington Convention Center.
- Beautification of the Richmond Road Corridor
- $1 million to the Purchase Development Rights (PDR) program to protect farmland
- Funding for a new Infrastructure Fund to help developers address the higher costs of complicated infill construction site
- $2.5 million for new fire department equipment and support for plans to build a Station 24
- $10 million for paving
