Our Community Needs You! Do You Have PPE?
The impact of COVID-19 has gripped our nation and the world in a way we haven’t seen in generations. Although we are forced to be apart, it certainly requires all of us working together to overcome something as powerful as the Coronavirus. In order to defeat this opponent and restore our normal way of life, we must ensure that the people on the frontlines working hard to heal our community – our doctors, nurses, and other health care workers, as well as our public safety personnel – have the necessary equipment to keep them and others safe while treating patients. We’ve all seen the terrible impact in other countries that didn’t have adequate supplies of PPE for their health care workers fighting the virus. Right now, there is a substantial shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) across our nation, and Lexington is no different.
Over the next 30 days, our local facilities are estimating that they’ll need an additional 267,000 gowns, 27,000 face shields, 21,000 N95 masks, 12,500 pairs of gloves, 7,000 packages of disinfectant wipes, 4,700 surgical facemasks, and 500 surgical caps. Those numbers are certainly staggering, but imagine the needs over the next 90 days. A few local entities have been able to pivot their operations to begin producing PPE equipment, while many others have donated items on the state level.
This is a critical time for our community. If your business has donated PPE items already, thank you for your assistance. Please take a look at the list of needed items listed below and in the this letter from Mayor Linda Gorton and Commerce Lexington Inc. President & CEO, Bob Quick. If you have more on hand than your business currently needs, if you have large quantities available, or if you own a business that may be able to produce PPE items, please complete the form ON-LINE HERE or contact LexCall as soon as possible at 3-1-1 or the Mayor's office at (859) 258-3100, and someone will follow up with you.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this request. Together, we will get through this.
