2025-26 Leadership Lexington Program Concludes With Graduation;                          Class Member TJ Maxberry Named Distinguished Leader Award Recipient

6/6/2026

PictureTJ Maxberry was named the 2026 Leadership Lexington Distinguished Leader.
Commerce Lexington Inc. is proud to recognize the latest class of graduates from the 2025-26 Leadership Lexington program presented by Community Trust Bank.  Since 1979, this nationally recognized leadership development program has been cultivating Lexington leaders, producing more than 1,800 graduates from this impactful leadership development program that has enhanced our city in areas such as youth mentoring, public art, healthy living, hunger relief, community engagement, and more.

Commerce Lexington’s Director of Leadership Development, Tyra Harbut, said, “The Leadership Lexington Class of 2026 is an engaged, collaborative, and community-minded group of leaders who have demonstrated a strong commitment to personal and professional growth throughout the program year. The class members brought a wide range of perspectives, experiences, and talents to each session, creating thoughtful conversations, meaningful project ideas, and valuable connections along the way. Their passion for leadership, service, and the future of our kids and the community has been inspiring, and we are excited to see the impact they will continue to make in Lexington!”

First presented in 1998, the Leadership Lexington Distinguished Leader Award annually recognizes the class member who demonstrates strong principles and dedication to the concept of community service. This year’s Distinguished Leader Award recipient is TJ Maxberry (Formerly of Guide Realty & now with The Brokerage KY), who was the team leader of a project entitled GenLex, an initiative to help the next generation build financial confidence, accountability, and long-term wealth-building habits. The group engaged students at The Learning Center (TLC) through an interactive series designed to build financial confidence and practical life skills. Sessions included Money Moves 101, Bank It or Break It, The Paycheck Puzzle, and Level Up Your Wealth.

Other class projects included: Birdie Buddies of the Bluegrass, a 12-week learn-to-golf youth mentorship program with a mission to use golf as a tool to strengthen mentorship bonds, foster confidence and resilience, and build essential life skills in mentees; LexSupport, which aims to advance the dialogue on nonprofit giving by highlighting philanthropy as a “strategic investment” in our local and national economy; and Lexington Land Bank, which aims to research and present an option to address dilapidated and tax delinquent properties in Lexington’s current housing climate via a tool for infill and redevelopment.

Leadership Lexington class members closed out the 2025-26 program with a final day session on June 4 at Transylvania University’s W.T. Young Campus Center. After reporting on the class projects, class members participated in a leadership development session and after-action review with Jason Cummins of Horizon Performance and provided feedback about their experience in the Leadership Lexington program. A graduation ceremony was held at Transylvania University’s Campus Center Ballroom, where the class heard from keynote speaker Fayette District Judge Melissa Moore Murphy, a 2016 graduate of Leadership Lexington.

Following the ceremony, the new graduates were invited to a reception organized by the Leadership Lexington Alumni Association at Transylvania University’s The Entrepreneurship Hub. Find out more about Leadership Lexington at www.leadershiplexington.com.
