![]() Commerce Lexington Inc. is proud to recognize the latest class of graduates from the 2024-25 Leadership Lexington program presented by Community Trust Bank. Since 1979, this nationally recognized leadership development program has been cultivating Lexington leaders, producing more than 1,800 graduates from this impactful leadership development program that has enhanced our city in areas such as youth mentoring, public art, healthy living, hunger relief, community engagement, and more. Commerce Lexington’s Director of Leadership Development, Tyra Harbut, said, “The class of 2025 is an incredibly close-knit, energetic, and inspiring group. They are passionate, high-performing, forward-thinking, engaged, and deeply committed to both their personal growth and the well-being of our community. Thoughtful, dynamic, family-oriented, and full of good vibes, this class has truly set the bar high. As my very first class, they will always hold a special place in my heart. They consistently showed up to each day session eager to learn, contribute, and support one another, making my role not only easier but incredibly meaningful. I’ve gained lifelong friendships from this experience, and for that, I’m beyond grateful.” First presented in 1998, the Leadership Lexington Distinguished Leader Award annually recognizes the class member who demonstrates strong principles and dedication to the concept of community service. This year’s Distinguished Leader Award recipient is Rachel Skinner from Bluegrass Greensource, who was the team leader of a project entitled CompostLex, an initiative to reduce waste through the city-wide collection of compostable materials from local restaurants. They quickly learned they had to pivot that idea and identified vermicomposting (composting with worms) as the best option. Working with Fayette County Public Schools, ten elementary schools signed up to receive composting worm farms this spring with several more expressing interest for the fall. Throughout May, the CompostLex team distributed eight worm farms to a variety of first to fifth grade classrooms. Other class projects included an effort called Compassion Lex to provide resources and care for the city’s homeless and vulnerable population, Next Up Lex, which celebrates artistic and performing arts, empowering young people to pursue their passions and develop their skills through a community talent competition for high school students, and Look Good, Feel Good, which empowers individuals in recovery and re-entry by providing essential resources to help them re-enter the workforce. Leadership Lexington class members closed out the 2024-25 program with a final day session on June 12 at Transylvania University’s W.T. Young Campus Center. After reporting on the class projects, class members participated in an after-action review with Jason Cummins of Horizon Performance and provided feedback about their experience in the Leadership Lexington program. A graduation ceremony was held at Transylvania University’s Campus Center Ballroom, during which the class heard from keynote speaker Davonna Saier, owner of Davonna Inclusive, as well as a partner with Sutherland & Associates and a 2016 graduate of Leadership Lexington. Following the ceremony, the new graduates were invited to a reception organized by the Leadership Lexington Alumni Association at Transylvania University’s Graham Cottage.
