Commerce Lexington Presents Money Smart Classes for Aspiring & Existing Small Business Owners; Winter Session Begins on February 2nd

1/6/2026

Many people have dreams of owning their own business, but often they don’t know where to start. It takes research, proper planning, financing and much more to put oneself in a position to realize the dream of owning and operating a business.  Investing the time on the front end to learn about the steps necessary can increase the odds of success when starting a small business.

Commerce Lexington is pleased to provide the Money Smart for Small Business program at no cost for aspiring entrepreneurs and existing small business owners. This six-week program developed jointly by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) kicks off Monday, February 2, at 5:30 p.m. in Commerce Lexington’s first floor conference space (330 E. Main Street).  Subsequent classes will continue each Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. through March 9 and will present an introduction to topics related to starting and managing a small business. Food will also be provided during the classes.

Money Smart classes are taught by Dale Morgan, President & CEO of Foundation47, the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2025 Financial Services Advocate of the Year. Some of the modules include planning for a healthy business, types of business structures, banking services, time management, and more.

Commerce Lexington’s Senior Vice President of Community & Minority Business Development, Tyrone Tyra, said, “We are excited to be able to continue these valuable classes at no cost to business owners and entrepreneurs across our community and region. The classes provide important information related to building and maintaining a successful business. If you’ve ever thought about starting your own business, Money Smart is a great foundation for it.  Existing business owners have even found the classes valuable as a refresher.”
