Ambassador Spotlight (December 2020):
John Brandon, Raymond James
Raymond James was founded in 1962 and with its global headquarters in St. Petersburg, FL. The founder Bob James was a pioneer of financial planning, bucking Wall Street’s product-first mentality in favor of a belief that financial professionals could do more than sell stocks – they could help build brighter futures. Raymond James is one of the most stable independent financial services firms in the country.
After graduating from the University of Kentucky with a degree in finance, John spent the next 15 years in the financial services industry. "I was initially attracted to the business by the global reach of the financial markets," he added. "However, I have found that my business creates much more satisfying results by helping clients try to achieve their financial and life goals, whether that is planning for retirement, saving for a child’s education, or starting a business."
As a financial advisor, John’s role consists of working with clients to discuss short and long-term objectives. Certain financial strategies could make a business more tax efficient, enable a streamlined transfer of wealth and protection of accumulated wealth via life and long-term care insurance.
"Commerce Lexington is a large voice for small businesses and provides fantastic resources for our business community. Lexington is very fortunate to have a successful chamber at its service and I am proud to be a part of it," said John. “As a native Lexingtonian, I believe it’s very important for me to have knowledge of not only what is happening, but why things are happening in my hometown and the decisions behind these changes.”
“Being an Ambassador has vastly increased my awareness of industries, trends and the culture of Lexington by giving me the opportunity to be more involved,” said John. "It’s also been fantastic to get to know the people at Commerce Lexington."

I have had the great opportunity to meet so many amazing people, and I feel lucky to be a small part of a great chamber.”
"At Class 101, our motto is Empower, Serve, and Inspire," said Olivia. "Serving is something so strongly embedded in the culture and atmosphere of what we do. Whether that is going to a ribbon cutting, meeting with a family for the first time, or going the extra mile in finding scholarships or aid for a student, we serve."
Olivia said, “Serving as an Ambassador has been such a gift. There are so many great networking organizations and opportunities out there, but being an Ambassador is different. You are able to represent yourself and your business, while also having the strong backing of Commerce Lexington. I love going to the ribbon cuttings and meeting people new to the area.”

Crystal Newton Recognized as Ambassador of the Year at Commerce Lexington Inc. Annual Dinner
Crystal Newton from Bates Security was recognized as Commerce Lexington Inc.'s 2019 Ambassador of the Year at the recent Annual Dinner event presented by Fifth Third Bank. VISIT HERE for more coverage of the Annual Dinner.
Sonny Bates purchased the Sonitrol of Lexington franchise in 1984 with 300 customers and a small office. Today, the company operates four offices, services close to 12,000 customers in two states, and in 2018 was named the industry’s Company of the Year.
Crystal Newton started with Sonitrol of Lexington in 2010 in business development and now manages the marketing and business development of the company’s seven brands, the most prominent being Bates Security here in Lexington. Crystal and her team are responsible for developing new business and building long-term relationships with clients for residential and large commercial security systems, which include locksmith services and IT/networking services.
"I’ve made many new friends as part of the Ambassador Committee, and I have seen Lexington grow and prosper one business at a time," said Crystal. "The biggest thing I’ve noticed when contacting our members is that many of them do not take full advantage of the benefits they receive with their membership, such as communications, market exposure, networking opportunities and continuing education. My job is to connect those dots, which benefits the member and ultimately, benefits economic growth in central Kentucky."

Ambassador Spotlight (February 2020):
Kortney Mike, Preston Greens Senior Living
A native of Paducah, Kortney Mike serves as director of sales and marketing for Preston Greens, a luxury personal care and memory care community currently under construction in the Hamburg area across from Costco. “The exceptional care we will provide and our amenities truly set us apart,” said Kortney. “We will open in summer 2020, and our model apartments will be ready for viewing in February 2020. Taking care of our elders, the ones who have paved the way for all of us, is my passion and I love what I do day in and day out. I have been here since August 2019 and I am one of three employees at this current time. Seeing everything around me get built from the ground up is an awesome experience and opportunity!"
Kortney said, “Being involved in Commerce Lexington is wonderful, because it is a well known avenue that allows me to give back to the community all while promoting a community I am so fond of. Networking and meeting new people is what Commerce Lexington does so well, and I am happy I get to be a part of that! I really enjoy attending ribbon cuttings, because you get to share a very happy time with a business owner in the area. The support you give them goes a long way and to see the smile on their face when they cut the ribbon to their business they have worked so hard for means a lot. It is also a great way to familiarize yourself with the area and see how much Lexington is growing."
“The connections I am able to make as an Ambassador has to be my favorite part,” said Kortney. “I haven’t been an Ambassador for long, but I can already tell I am in great company, and this year will be a fun and very rewarding year. The members I have called so far have had nothing but great things to say about Commerce Lexington and love everything we stand for.”
