Annual Awards Announced for Community Impact, Volunteerism; Recipients to be Recognized at An Evening With Commerce Lexington on January 25th

1/18/2024

Commerce Lexington is proud to announce its annual awards recognizing community impact and volunteerism, which highlight individuals and organizations that have had a significant impact on our organization and the community.  The Volunteer of the Year Award recipient is Jeff Morrett from Parsons and Howard Insurance Group, while the nonprofit organization, Lexington For Everyone, has been selected for the Community Impact Award.

Commerce Lexington Inc. President & CEO, Bob Quick, said, “We’ve always said that it takes a village to be successful both as an organization and a community.  It’s very important to us to recognize those individuals and organizations that have made lasting impacts, and we are proud to add two more award recipients to the list of so many that are instrumental to our community.”
As the Volunteer of the Year, Jeff Morrett (Parsons and Howard Insurance Group) is a strong advocate for Commerce Lexington, having served on the Ambassador Committee since 2021 and taking on a leadership role as Chair of that committee for the last two years.  The members of this selective group help educate members on benefits, programs, and events, while representing the organization at ribbon cuttings, grand openings, and other community events. For his efforts, he was recognized with the 2021 Ambassador of the Year Award.  He is also a proud member of Rotary of Lexington and participates in Business Network International, fostering connections and collaboration within his industry.  The Volunteer of the Year Award is sponsored by Commonwealth Credit Union.

The Community Impact Award recipient is Lexington For Everyone, an organization dedicated to advocating for balanced, common-sense land use policies in Fayette County and educating the public about the impact of those policies.  With Fayette County facing limited housing inventory and a lack of land for both housing and jobs, the board of Lexington For Everyone embarked on a public awareness campaign that included digital media, informational events, presentations to community organizations, and meetings with councilmembers – all of which helped provide valuable information and feedback during the city’s Comprehensive Plan public engagement process. After much debate and public input, councilmembers approved a more balanced Comprehensive Plan that protects our iconic horse farms, leverages infill and redevelopment opportunities, and adds important land for housing and jobs within the Urban Services Boundary.  The Community Impact Award is sponsored by Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC.

The award recipients will be presented with their awards during An Evening With Commerce Lexington presented by Fifth Third Bank on January 25th at Central Bank Center.  During this annual gathering of the regional business community, participants will experience great networking and connecting with colleagues, excellent music and food, and a brief program featuring a variety of speakers.  Register on-line at commercelexington.com.
